Portuguese Cobblestone by Vista Alegre Distinguished With "Red Dot Design Award 2017"
"Calçada Portuguesa" – “Portuguese Cobblestone”, a collection of Vista Alegre, won the jury of the "Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017", the most prestigious international design award . The "Red Dot Design Awards" receives about 17,000 thousand applications a year and is one of the most respected design competitions in the world. The label "Red Dot" symbolizes excellence and quality, is a label that all international brands aim to conquer. Its distinction, the Red Dot, is established internationally as one of the most sought-after quality marks for good design. From products to communication projects and packaging to design concepts and prototypes, the Red Dot Award tracks the most prominent trends worldwide.
Inspired by patterns from the Portuguese cobblestone pavement, this new collection created by designer Manoela Medeiros is a special tribute to Lisbon. Charting four emblematic routes throughout the capital, this set of four coffee cups reproduces, with precision and creativity, the black and white tracery which is the basis of the most refined patterns, evoking simultaneously its texture.
About Manoela Medeiros
Manoela Medeiros was born in 1991 in Rio de Janeiro and studied Graphic Design at PUC-Rio. In 2012, she received a scholarship to study at the École Des Beaux Arts in Paris. There she held several exhibitions, one in the Cité Des Arts, which proved to be crucial to her training as an artist and in her vision of the design work process. Subsequently she studied photography at IADE in Lisbon, where she became acquainted with and was carried away by the work of the Vista Alegre Porcelain Factory.
